Portfolio screenshots and star ratings don't tell you who will actually show up when a deadline slips. Here's the shortlist criteria that matters: response time, past client industries, and who you're really talking to after the contract is signed.

Search for the best IT company in Pakistan and you will find hundreds of software houses with polished portfolios and five-star reviews. Almost all of them look capable on the surface. The difference between a good partner and an expensive mistake usually shows up three months into the project, when a deadline slips or the first version reaches real users.

This guide is the checklist we would use ourselves if we were hiring an outside team. It focuses on what predicts delivery, not on what makes a website look impressive.

1. Find out who will actually do the work

Many agencies sell with senior people and deliver with whoever is free. Before you sign, ask to meet the project lead and at least one engineer who will write the code. Ask how long they have been with the company and what they worked on last.

  • Is the team in-house, or is work passed to freelancers?
  • Who is your single point of contact, and how quickly do they reply?
  • Will the same people stay on the project after launch?

2. Look for work in your industry, not just nice screenshots

A portfolio tells you a company can design. Industry experience tells you they understand your constraints. A clinic needs accurate records and compliance reporting. A law firm needs trust and fast-loading practice pages. A restaurant chain needs a point of sale that works during the Friday rush.

Ask for two or three projects close to yours and, if possible, a reference you can call. At Funtash we publish case studies for exactly this reason, so prospective clients can read how a project actually went.

3. Test how they communicate before the contract

The sales phase is when a company is on its best behaviour. If replies are slow or vague now, they will not improve later. Pay attention to whether they ask questions about your business or jump straight to a price.

A good partner will tell you what not to build. If every idea you mention gets a yes, nobody is thinking about your budget.

4. Ask for a written scope, timeline and fixed milestones

A proposal should list what will be delivered, in what order, and how you will review progress. Weekly demos, a shared task board and clear acceptance criteria protect both sides. Avoid open-ended hourly arrangements unless the work genuinely cannot be scoped.

5. Check what happens after launch

Software is never finished. Ask who hosts it, who monitors it, how bugs are prioritised and what support costs per month. Make sure the source code, domains and cloud accounts are in your name, not the agency's.

6. Consider one partner instead of five vendors

Many businesses end up with a developer, a separate marketing agency, a freelancer for ads and someone else for hosting. Every handoff between them is a place where things get lost. One accountable team that handles product, marketing and infrastructure can be simpler and cheaper to manage. That is the model behind our SaaS Growth Partner service.

Red flags to walk away from

  • A fixed price given before anyone has asked about your business
  • No named project lead, or a lead who changes every week
  • Refusal to put code and accounts in your name
  • Portfolio projects nobody can tell you anything specific about

The short version

The best IT company in Pakistan for you is the one that understands your industry, tells you honestly what to build first, and is still answering your messages a year after launch. Check people, process and post-launch support before you compare prices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a software house in Pakistan?

Meet the people who will do the work, ask for projects in your industry, insist on a written scope with milestones, and confirm who owns the code and accounts after launch.

Should I hire a freelancer or an IT company?

A freelancer can work for a small, well-defined task. For a product that needs design, development, hosting and ongoing support, a company with an in-house team is usually less risky.
