The challenge

Growing an education business across two countries needs more than a website

UM International already had a long track record with universities and families. What it needed was technology and digital capability that could keep pace with a business working across two countries and several university relationships.

  1. 01

    One brand, several audiences

Students and parents researching study abroad, MBBS in China specifically, and individual partner universities all need different entry points.

  2. 02

    Search visibility for high-intent queries

Families search for terms like "MBBS in China" long before they call a consultant. Being findable at that moment matters.

  3. 03

    Steady student acquisition

Each academic session needs a reliable flow of qualified enquiries, not a one-off campaign.

  4. 04

    Constantly changing admissions rules

Requirements such as recognition rules, intake dates and new entry tests like the CSCA must be explained accurately as they change.

  5. 05

    Admissions paperwork at scale

Every student generates forms, documents, admission letters and JW visa paperwork that have to be tracked without errors.

  6. 06

    A partner, not another vendor

Requirements kept evolving, from ads to websites to operations, so UM needed one team that could grow with it.

The Funtash approach

One integrated growth and technology model

Instead of separate vendors for the website, ads, social and systems, every function sits with one team that understands how admissions actually work.

Website development

Multi-page, search-focused websites for the consultancy and its MBBS-in-China and university admission information properties.

SEO & organic growth

Content and on-page work around high-intent education queries such as MBBS in China, recognition rules and university programs.

Google Ads

Paid search to reach students and parents during admission seasons, alongside organic growth.

Social media

Ongoing social media management and digital communication for the consultancy's audiences.

AI & technology consulting

Advice on where AI and new tools genuinely help the business, applied when there is a real use case.

Admissions technology

Translating the admissions process into structured digital workflows the team can rely on.

Admissions ERP portal

A dedicated internal portal for student records, applications, admission documents, letters and JW paperwork.

Ongoing IT strategy

Continuous technical and strategic consultation as the business adds destinations, universities and offices.

Website & digital ecosystem

Four websites, one connected education ecosystem

Funtash developed and manages the public platforms that bring students and parents into UM International, each built for a different stage of their research.

The .cn sites are admissions information sites operated within UM International's partner network. They are not the universities' own official websites, and Funtash is not presented here as a technology partner of the universities themselves.

Strategy in action

Getting ahead of the CSCA

From the 2026–27 intake, Chinese universities began listing a CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) transcript among undergraduate application materials. Funtash built content and enrollment pathways around it before families started searching: a dedicated CSCA exam guide on studyinchinambbs.com and a CSCA + Chinese Language program pathway on jilinuniversity.cn.

Admissions technology

The admissions ERP: where the real work happens

Public websites bring students in. What happens next is operational: forms, documents, verification, letters and visa paperwork for every applicant, coordinated between the consultancy and its team. Funtash developed a dedicated admissions ERP portal so that work runs in one place instead of across inboxes and spreadsheets.

What the portal handles

  • Student information and data management
  • Admission forms
  • Application processing and status workflow
  • Admission documentation
  • Admission letters
  • JW-related documentation and forms
  • Coordination between the consultancy and its operational team
Digital growth engine

Search, ads, social and operations working as one system

Each channel feeds the next. Families find UM through search, ads and social, research on the websites, apply, and are then handled in the admissions portal by the same team.

Long-term digital continuity

One team has carried the websites, campaigns and systems forward for around five years.

Centralised admissions workflow

Student records, documents, letters and JW paperwork live in one portal.

Search presence across the ecosystem

Separate properties for the consultancy, MBBS in China and partner universities, each built for search.

Ready for new requirements

Content and pathways for the CSCA were in place as the requirement arrived.

Scalable digital infrastructure

New destinations and universities are added without rebuilding the platform.

Continuous technology support

Changes and new needs are handled by the same team that built the systems.

Why this partnership matters

Technology works best when it understands the business behind it.

Funtash did not build a website and leave. We learned how admissions, universities and families work, and supported UM International at every layer of that process.
